VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Police and administrators are investigating a threat against Lynnhaven Middle School, after they say a student came forward Wednesday and said he heard another student making the threat.
Administrators immediately called police, who took the student into custody. Officials say the student faces disciplinary action, including possible criminal charges.
Investigators would not say exactly what that threat was.
Kellie Mason, Lynnhaven Middle’s principal, sent this message home to parents, notifying them of the situation:
Good evening, Lynnhaven Middle School families, this is Principal Kellie Mason and I am calling today with an important message about school safety. Right before dismissal today, one of our students came forward to report hearing another student make threatening comments toward our school. We immediately contacted police, and the student was identified before leaving school grounds today. Appropriate disciplinary action has been taken here at the school. Additionally, this student is in police custody and is now facing potential criminal charges. Tonight, I ask you to talk with your children and assure them our school is safe and that they should follow the example of their classmate who came forward today after hearing something upsetting. Again, if your children see something, they should say something. Thank you for your help in this work, and, as always, for your support of Lynnhaven Middle.
