Storms down trees, knock out power for thousands across the region


NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Several thousand households lost power in Hampton Roads Friday night when severe storms moved through the region.

Dominion Energy reported at one point that 4,600 customers wer without power in Southeast Virginia, with about 3,000 of those in Newport News. York County was also hit hard with 1,366 customers losing power.  Chesapeake saw 250 households lose power and in Hampton 200. Other cities show little to no power outages. 

Viewers reported trees down in the Colony Pines neighborhood and on Colony Road near Sanford Elementary. Viewers also reported trees down in Sussex County, Williamsburg and in Norfolk, where one fell on a house. 

300-plus people were also without power in Gloucester.
