Currituck Highway 158 stolen vehicle crash

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Six people have been taken to the hospital after a stolen vehicle flipped Wednesday afternoon on Highway 158 south of Coinjock.

It all started when a trooper saw an Acura that was reported stolen in Pasquotank County speeding on Highway 158, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Acura kept going, and eventually tried to cross the center lane to pass another vehicle.

In the process, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which went into a ditch, flipped, and landed on its side. The accident happened near Muddy Motor Sports, according to Currituck County Schools.

The school district said the accident delayed bus schedules for 20 to 45 minutes.

Police say all six people inside the vehicle were taken to the hospital, but all injuries are considered non life-threatening.

There’s no word yet from police about potential charges.
