PORTSMOUTH (WAVY) – Chris Clemons finished with 20 points, three asists and two steals, leading Portsmouth Partnership to a 90-81 win over Sales Systems LTD in the championship game of the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament on Saturday night at Churchlad High School.
Clemons, the nation’s leading scorer this past season as a senior at Campbell University, was named the PIT’s Most Valuable Player, and averaged 18 points through three games.
Meanwhile, former Old Dominion star B.J. Stith scored nine points in his final outing of the PIT. Named the Conference USA Player of the Year his senior season, Stith struggled through much of the tournament, going scoreless his first night, then only putting up four points the second night.
“I feel like I just have to play more under control,” said Stith. “I think the pressure got to me, playing home, last time, PIT, I don’t know what it was, I just didn’t perform the way I wanted to.
“But you know, it happens sometimes. You can’t perform well everytime, but just (have to have a) short memory, and move on.”
