Steak knife found in backpack of Riverside Elementary school student on school bus

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Riverside Elementary School student is facing explusion after being found with a steak knife in their backpack on Jan. 23. 

Newport News Public School spokesperson Michelle Price said the student brought the steak knife on the school in his backpack. A student told other students about the knife, who then told the bus driver. 

The bus driver pulled over and took the backpack with the knife from the student. The student did not brandish the knife, but the student did use some aggressive language when talking to another student, according to one report. 

When the bus arrived at the school, admistrators immediately took the student’s backpack and escorted him off the school bus. The student has been recommended for explusion. 

The parents of the students on the bus were notifed by the school on this incident.
