YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia State Police Trooper was involved in a three-vehicle accident Friday night.
Investigators say Trooper Zbinovec activated emergency equipment and attempted to stop a speeding driver around 9:38 p.m. on I-64 westbound in York County.
The driver suddenly slowed abruptly to a stop in the left lane at that location. In order to avoid hitting the car, Trooper Zbinovec slowed abruptly and then was hit from behind by a pick-up truck.
The trooper’s vehicle was pushed into the sedan and the guardrail.
Trooper Zbinovec sustained minor injuries and was treated by medics on the scene. The other two drivers also sustained minor injuries. No one was transported to the hospital.
The driver of the sedan, 22-year-old Kanishia Aurdray Collins, was charged with improper stopping.
The driver of the pick-up truck, 51-year-old Steven Todd Perkins, was charged with following too closely and driving while suspended.
The trooper’s vehicle sustained heavy rear end damage and front end damage.
