State police: Missing Martinsville man safe, alleged abductor in custody

UPDATE (Aug. 2): A missing 88-year-old man from Martinsville has been found safe and his alleged abductor is in custody, according to Virginia State Police.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police and the Martinsville Police Department are asking for the public’s help locating a missing 88-year-old man who may have been abducted.

John Alee Wimbush is believed to be with 59-year-old Valerie Vianna Swinson (AKA Valerie Vianna Condell) and may be in danger, according to police. 

Wimbush was last seen at around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on Forest Street in Martinsville. He is described as a 5-foot-6, 176-pound black male with brown eyes and black/gray hair and was last seen wearing a blue shirt, jacket and blue jeans. He also uses a cane to walk.

Swinson (Condell) is described as a 5-foot-8, 167-pound black female with brown eyes and black/blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a black and white striped tank top.
