Cheers to my second week at WAVY!
As the weeks go by, my time here at WAVY just gets better and better. This week I edited a VOSOT for one of the reporters that aired on the 4pm news. I am use to editing videos on Abode Premiere, but one of the photographers taught me the basics of how to use Avid (a different editing software) that they use here at the station. It was exciting to see something that I put together on actual TV for the first time even though it was small.
Later on in the week, I went out with a new reporter that was just hired. It was her first time going out by herself, but she knew exactly what she was doing. We went to the Yorktown YMCA to cover a story of the recent car break-ins She taught me some of how to use the camera and set up different shots and then let me do a few stand-ups to put together my reel resume. Then we went to one of the victims home for an interview and the lady was so sweet. The lady was shocked that her car was broken into after going to the YMCA for 2 years. She says she’ll continue to go back because she loves the gym so much, but she’ll just park in front where the cameras are.
As the week comes to an end, I am really starting to get the hang of how things work in the newsroom. Everything is on a tight schedule and based on time. While I am here I plan on trying to master most of the skills I need as far as writing, editing, shooting and also speaking with a clear, conversational and concise voice for broadcast news. The people here at WAVY are very helpful and let the interns be very hands-on. I love it here and am excited for the rest of my time here.
