SMART women helping local domestic violence shelters

News

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Women can achieve anything they set their minds to, and dozens of successful local women have set their minds on helping their neighbors in need.

The group gathered in Chesapeake Tuesday for the H.E.R Shelter’s 10th annual SMART Women’s Luncheon.

SMART, in this case, stands for: Smart Motivated And Really Tired.

It’s all about celebrating the roles women hold and the power they have to lift others.

Speakers included Senior Executive Vice President and Director of National Sales for Towne Bank,  Shirley Sasser and author Mattie Stevenson provided the inspirational speech.  Stevenson was once a client at the H.E.R. shelter.

Proceeds from the event go to the her shelter’s survivor services as well as the new family shelter in Portsmouth.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. If you donate to the purple purse campaign, Allstate will match your donation. Find more information on the H.E.R. Shelter’s Facebook page.
