James City County Police are investigating after a late-night party became violent.

Investigators say just after 11:00 p.m. Friday, police were called to DeLafayette Place in the Forest Glen subdivision for a report of shots fired.

The preliminary investigation showed there was a party at a house when a fight broke out.

Police say one of the people involved later fled the area as a passenger in a gray Dodge car.  That passenger fired a gun out of the car.  The car hit a parked car at the corner of DeLafeyette Place and Forest Glen Drive.  The car continued and turned right onto Centerville Road.

Officers then stopped the car on Jolly Pond Road where the suspect ran into the woods behind a home.  Officers found a handgun in the wood line where the suspect was last seen, but they were unable to apprehend the suspect.

Officers on scene also heard multiple gunshots in the Forest Glen area.  They later found shell casings on DeLafayette Place, Old Colonial Drive and Walker Drive.

A private vehicle brought a 38-year-old James City County man to Sentara Regional Medical Center in Williamsburg.  He has a non-life threatening gunshot wound in his leg.

The case is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
