NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Several thousand customers lost power Tuesday morning across the Peninsula, according to Dominion Energy.
Dominion’s outage map showed more than 11,000 reported outages between the Toano area and Newport News at one point. Over half of the reported outages were in Newport News.
Dominion spokesperson Bonita Harris said the outages started just after 8:45 a.m. A cause for the outages has not been determined, according to Harris.
Harris later said in a tweet 2,800 customers lost power in Virginia Beach due to a blown fuse at a construction site in Pembroke.
The outages came in a day with temperatures forecast to reach the low to mid-90s — with a heat index near 100. A large number of the Peninsula outages have since been reduced.
