NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Traffic was backed up more than 13 miles on Interstate 64 Tuesday morning due to three separate crash, officials with the Virginia Department of Transportation say.
In a news release, VDOT said the backups started around 6 a.m. after a front tire came off the rim of tractor-trailer going through the westbound side of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.
This required a heavy-duty tow.

VDOT said two separate crashes further back on I-64, including a four-vehicle crash on Little Creek Road, caused further congestion that has persisted throughout the morning.
All lanes are open, but traffic has been slow-moving for motorists.
According to VDOT, traffic along I-64 was backed up as far as the interchange of I-64 and Interstate 264 due to these incidents.
