Scott Johnson steps down as Oscar Smith football coach

(WAVY) — After two seasons on the job, Scott Johnson has stepped down as head football coach at Oscar Smith High School.

Johnson, a fixture in high school sports for the last several decades replaced the late Bill Dee in 2017.

In two seasons, Johnson guided the Tigers to a 23-5 record including an appearance in the state championship game two seasons ago.

Johnson informed his team he was leaving his position on Tuesday.

Prior to taking over the head coaching job at Oscar Smith, Johnson was an assistant under head coach’s Bill Dee and Richard Morgan. Before that, Johnson was the head coach at Western Branch High School.

With Johnson’s departure, the Tigers will be looking for their 4th head coach in five seasons.
