The July 4th summer holiday is less than a week away. With so many people expected to show up at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, the city and police department have a plan to control the crowds and the traffic.
City officials expect more than 100,000 people to visit the Oceanfront during the July 4th weekend, especially at night for the Stars and Stripes Explosion Fireworks show in the evening. If you plan to attend that, you may want to get there early!
Starting at 8 p.m., police plan on diverting traffic from Interstate 264 eastbound at Parks Avenue, and redirecting cars back westbound, away from the resort area.
Police will also close the eastbound Birdneck Road exit and the westbound First Colonial Road exit, until 1 a.m. or until traffic thins out.
To get to the Oceanfront, you can use Shore Drive from the north, Laskin Road or Virginia Beach Boulevard from the west, or General Booth Boulevard from the south.
