NORFOLK (WAVY) – Joe Smith began his basketball career as a star at Maury High School, was named the ACC and national collegiate Player of the Year at the University of Maryland, and became the second-youngest player in NBA history (second only to Magic Johnson) drafted no. 1 overall in the 1995 NBA draft. 

In part one of a Sportswrap special report, the “Rise, Fall and Rebound of Joe Smith,” Joe discusses playing for Jack Baker at Maury, his dreams of playing in the ACC, and the countless all-stars he encountered throughout his NBA journey.
