Rabbi responds to swastikas spray painted on local Hilltop businesses

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police are investigating swastikas spray painted on the back of Hilltop East businesses.
Rabbi Zoberman, of Virginia Beach, says the vandalism on businesses won’t be tolerated.
A neighbor posted on a social media app that she saw the graffitti and alerted police.
“It’s so hard to accept that someone, or some people, would do what they did, to paint a swastika and the words ‘no jew,’ this is a hate message, this is a hate crime, this has to be taken very seriously,” said Rabbi Zoberman.
The message was cleaned off from the back of the pizza shop called “Your Pie” late Monday afternoon, but as 10 On Your Side drove around the Hilltop shopping center, another swastika was found spray painted on the back of Stein Mart.
10 On Your Side called Stein Mart and they said they didn’t even know it was there but they would work on getting it taken off.
“Hate crimes are serious offenses, they touch lives they violate lives, so please let’s not repeat something that hurts what America stands for,” said Zoberman.
Rabbi Zoberman says he’s seen messages like these pop up around Virginia Beach and he believes education will be the only way that these hate messages will go away.
He also has his own message for whoever did this:
“Lets have dialogue … I’ll be glad to spend some time with them and describe to them the events of WWll and the Holocaust and tell them that hate only creates hate,” said Rabbi Zoberman.
10 On Your Side reached out to Virginia Beach Police, who say they were called out to the shopping center to investigate Sunday evening. They are working on sending a police report for this incident.
