VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Pungo community is once again coming together to show support for one of their own.
4-year-old Hudson Foschi passed away last month after a tragic accident.
The community is now trying to honor his memory for generations to come.
An upcoming event hopes to raise enough money to have a new playground built in his memory.
When you drive around Pungo, it’s easy to see Hudson Foschi touched the lives of many he never knew.
However, if you ask those who did know him, they’ll tell you he was a little warrior with a big heart.
“To know Hudson was to love him,” said Heather Harris, Director of Charity United Methodist Preschool.
“Hudson was an incredible kid. Just the things he said, the way he lived life,” said Catherine Beard, one of Hudson’s preschool teachers.
His family wanted to share his spirit with others, so they created the Hudson Strong Foundation.
With a little help from the community, the foundation hopes to honor Hudson’s life permanently with a new playground in his name at Charity United Methodist Preschool.
We’re told the playground was one of Hudson’s favorite places to be.
“Hudson loved being outside, loved the outdoors, loved building and I think this is just a great way to honor his memory,” Beard said.
The foundation is teaming up with Blue Pete’s restaurant on Sunday to host a silent auction fundraiser for the project. Food, drinks and Hudson Strong merchandise will also be available.
“I think the foundation has all sorts of dreams for ways they’ll be helping children in the future and the playground is the first in many things they have to come,” Harris said.
If they reach their $40,000 goal, we’re told the playground will double in size and have more features for the kids. If they surpass their goal, the extra money will go toward a scholarship fund in Hudson’s name.
“A big spirit, larger than life and an awesome kid so we’re looking forward to honoring him at the fundraiser,” Beard said.
“We just want to support his family and help them through this in any way that we can,” Harris said.
The fundraiser will be held this Sunday, Feb. 10, at Blue Pete’s restaurant (1401 N. Muddy Creek Road. Virginia Beach, Va. 23456) from noon to 5 p.m.
There will be valet parking onsite with overflow parking at 1301 N. Muddy Creek Road, Pungo, Va. 23456.
Shuttles will be running every 10 minutes.
