Princess Anne girls down Thomas Edison 69-55 for 6th straight state championship

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Princess Anne dynasty rolled to a sixth straight girls basketball state championship on Wednesday, topping Thomas Edison 69-55 in Richmond.

Thomas Edison came into the game with a 27-1 record, Princess Anne at 24-1.

Brianna Jackson had 23 points and 16 rebounds for Princess Anne, while Asia James had 17 points. Mahagony Lester, daughter of former NBA star Joe Smith, had 14 points.

It’s now the 10th state championship for Princess Anne and head coach Darnell Dozier.

“Like a million bucks, nothing better than 10, it’s like winning $10 million, nothing better than 10,” Dozier said following the win.

Lester, a senior, was thrilled to finish her career with another title.

“Unreal, I mean it’s something you only hear about in movies you never think of a team that has 6 straight state championships and 10 in total.”

Jackson felt the same.

“I’m definitley just so happy, I’m glad I spent my last game here and I can’t imagine leaving high school without another ring”
