VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach man who is a previously convicted felon was indicted this week on heroin charges.

The U.S.Attorney’s Office said 37-year-old Demetress Bratton was arrested in March after he tried to access his storage unit in Virginia Beach. A drug dog had given a positive alert for drugs in that unit earlier that same day — and police obtained a search warrant.

A search of the unit led to authorities finding two bags of an off-white substance on a hydraulic press. One of these bags had roughly 37 grams of heroin, while the other had 55 grams of a cutting agent used to increase the amount of heroin.

Prosecutors said a money counter, a Gucci bag containing $20,000 cash, two handguns, two rifles, and several cell phones were also seized in the search

When Bratton was arrested later that day, detectives found $1663 cash, bags of heroin and a cutting agent inside his vehicle.

On Wednesday, a federal grand jury indicted Bratton for with conspiracy, maintaining a drug-involved premises, and possession with intent to distribute heroin.
