YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Two children told deputies someone tried to abduct them while they were playing outside earlier this week, but deputies say it appears to be a mix-up.

According to a Facebook post from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called out to the 1100 block of Oriana Road around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in reference to the possible abduction.

A 7-year-old boy and his 9-year-old friend were playing in a field outside and told deputies a man and woman in a white vehicle had tried to take them.

Deputies said in their original Facebook post that there were some conflicting details in the report. They have since determined that it was not a threat.

There was a delivery truck in the area at the time and the man and woman were dressed like the children described, deputies say.

One of the children was playing in or around the truck and the driver reportedly picked up one of the children to take him out of the truck, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies also said there have been a few other reports about similar instances floating around social media, but they are false.
