PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Someone dumped dozens of tires in a Portsmouth neighborhood. Now the residents are livid.
10 On Your Side went out to Greenwood Drive, and weren’t the only ones concerned about it, so was a local councilman.
The 100 tires in Cavalier Manor are worn out and neatly stacked. A Cavalier Manor resident outspoken by what she’s looking at.
“It pisses me off. It pisses me off,” said Michele Smith about the tires. “We have to be more productive than this. Portsmouth is better than this. Yes sir, much better than this, yes sir.”
Sometime during the last three days near I-264 east and west, these tires showed up with no explanation. They were just dumped here.
Portsmouth City Councilman Shannon Glover is also upset.
“As I drove up, I noticed these tires that are sitting here, and it looks out of place, and it is not acceptable.”
Glover caught the eyesore driving up Greenwood Drive after an event honoring Dr. Martin Luther King.
“I think Dr. King would be very disappointed in this because it impacts a community, and it is not in a positive way to live.”
Keara Powell was driving by too, and it didn’t look right. “That is disrespectful, and nasty. You aren’t suppose to drop stuff off like that.”
Councilman Glover continued, “So if it is not good for the community, that doesn’t improve the community, enhance the community, then I don’t think Dr. King would be happy about that.”
It’s unknown who dropped them off, or from where they came.
Maybe they were cleaned up from the old park and ride property which sits vacant, and where the piles are located.
Councilman Glover isn’t letting this go. He’s doing something about it.
“It is an eyesore in this good community, and we need to get them out of here as soon as possible … after I get back downtown tomorrow morning I plan to have this investigated. We want to know who left them here, and how soon we can get them out of here.”
10 On Your Side will keep you posted on the tale of the tires, and what Councilman Glover can do to get the tires out of here.
