Portion of Indian Road in Gloucester County to remain closed through mid-October

GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) – A portion of Indian Road will remain closed until mid-October according to VDOT. 

The portion of Indian Road between Mohican Drive and Fary’s Mille Road was closed to drivers on July 31 after intense rain caused the pipes and roadway to fall. 

VDOT officials have obtained an emergency authorization to proceed with the contract to replace the concrete pipes that run underneath the road. Construction is expected to take 10 weeks to complete. 

Signs are posted along the recommended detour and will remain in place until the pipe replacement project and road repairs are complete. 

The recommended detour is approximately 11 miles : 

  1. Route 603 (Figg Shop Road)
  2. Route 198 (Dutton Road)
  3. Route 678 (Harcum Road)
  4. Route 605 (Indian Road) 

According to a recent traffic count, approximately 1,000 vehicles a day travel Indian Road.
