POQUOSON, Va. (WAVY) — A Poquoson raccoon has tested positive for rabies, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
The animal was picked up in the area of the 500 block of City Hall Avenue and the VDH says to notify officials if you or someone you know has made contact with the animal.
The Virginia Department of Health is sending reminders about prevention guidelines you can take to keep you and your pets safe.
Along with vaccinations for you and your pets, remember to report all animal exposure (bites and scratches) to your doctor and local health department. The VDH also advises you to enjoy wildlife from a far, and don’t encourage wild animals to come closer.
