HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police are investigating after a woman was shot multiple times Tuesday during a domestic dispute.
The call for the shooting came in at 2:47 p.m. to the 300 block of Lynnhaven Drive.
When police arrived, they found a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
An investigation revealed the woman and another person were in a domestic argument before the shooting and both parties exchanged gunfire. Police say they’re confident all parties have been identified and are cooperating.
Residents living nearby, like Johnny Dawkins, heard the shooting from their homes.
“I was out using the lawn mower to get the leaves up and I heard a pop, pop but with the lawn mower running, I wasn’t paying attention,” he said.
Dawkins says he’s not surprised a shooting happened, just that it happened in his neighborhood.
“It’s a shock, this close. It’s normally a quiet neighborhood. I don’t know what happened down there but it was bad enough for someone to get shot,” he said
Neighbor Randall Michalos agreed.
He says it’s an eye-opening incident and believes it will change some things in the community.
“I think they’re going to re-assess and think maybe we start looking out more for one another and see if any problems are going on with family and friends,” he said.
