Police: Woman arrested, charged after ‘vehicular assault’ in Norfolk

News

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A woman is in custody following a “vehicular assault” involving an SUV in Norfolk.

The incident happened right in front of a church on Shoop Avenue, near Tidewater Drive. Dispatchers received a call around 1:25 p.m.

The pastor of the church told WAVY’s Deanna Bettineschi that a driver ran a woman over with a black Cadillac SUV, pinning her against the church’s door.

However, police confirmed reported injuries were not life-threatening. The SUV had heavy front-end damage.

“When I got here, I saw a victim laying up on the ground in front of my door, I think someone was trying to break up a fight and got ran over,” said Gerald Holmes, the church’s pastor.

Police say 24-year-old Tajae Drew was arrested on scene and charged with reckless driving, two counts of unlawful wounding, and two counts of felony child neglect.

She is being held at Norfolk City Jail without bond.
