Police: Va. Beach man drowns near Norfolk Yacht Club

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man died after he was found unresponsive in the water near Norfolk Yacht Club over the weekend, police say.

Norfolk police spokesperson Jo Ann Hughes said officers and Norfolk Fire-Rescue were dispatched to the yacht club on Hampton Boulevard for a man possibly drowning in the water.

First responders found a 63-year-old man unresponsive in the water.

Police later identified the man as Harry Lewis, of Virginia Beach.

Hughes said Lewis was pulled from the water and was taken to Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. This case has been classified as a natural death.

According to police, Lewis was having trouble breathing and called for help.
