Police: Toddler drowns in backyard swimming pool in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a toddler accidentally drowned Thursday in Suffolk.

Suffolk police say the 3-year-old boy had wandered outside a home in the rural Whaleyville Borough without family members being aware. The child was found in the backyard swimming pool.

Dispatch received a call around 11:20 a.m. Police say family members administered CPR until emergency responders arrived.

The child was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
