Police: Suspect crashes stolen car after chase spans two cities

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A driver is facing charges after a police chase that went through two cities Sunday morning ended in a crash.

Chesapeake police said the chase started when officers tried to stop a white Ford Fiesta at Campostella Road and Indian River roads just after 10 a.m. The car that was reported stolen out of Hampton.

Police said the driver took off at a high rate of speed. 

Chesapeake officers chased the stolen car into Norfolk, where the driver sideswiped a vehicle and crashed into a tree. The chase lasted less than five minutes.

Police said two people inside the vehicle got out and ran, but they were apprehended by officers.

According to police, the passenger was a 15-year-old female.

The driver, 19-year-old Darrius White, of Norfolk, is facing charges of felony eluding, possession of stolen property, felony hit and run, driving while revoked and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

White was arraigned on the charges Monday morning, and is due back in court Dec. 19, 2018.
