Police: Possible meth lab discovered on PHF property

News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police discovered a possible meth lab in a wooded area on Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport property on Saturday.

Around 1:50 p.m., police were dispatched to the 12400 block of Jefferson Avenue for a call about a suspicious person, according to Newport News Police.

When officers checked the wooded area behind the Sam’s Club store in that area, they located a tent with a possible meth lab. Police say they upgraded the call to a hazmat situation and notified the fire department.

10 On Your Side spoke with airport officials. They say the property behind the Sam’s Club is owned by the airport because of its proximity to the airfield perimeter.

Airport officials say the incident has no impact on their operations.

Police and firefighters are investigating. Stay on WAVY.com for updates.
