Police: NN man arrested for breaking into hotel room, choking man

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man was arrested early Saturday morning after police say he forced himself into a man’s hotel room and strangled the man. 

The incident happened just before 2 a.m. at the In-Town Suites in the first block of Old Oyster Point Road. 

A 55-year-old Newport News man told police he had been assaulted and choked by the suspect. Police say the victim had visible injuries to his ear. 

The victim told officers the suspect knocked on his door before forcing his way into the room. 

Police later identified the suspect as 32-year-old Vincent Whitman of the first block of Old Oyster Point Road. Whitman was arrested and charged with strangulation, unlawful wounding and burglary.
