NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News police officer has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested for driving under the influence with a child in the vehicle.
Detective Justin Briggs, 36, was arrested just before midnight on Sunday in the 13000 block of Ridgeview Drive, according to a press release from Newport News Police. Officers say Briggs was off duty at the time. The child was a family member, according to police.
He was later released on bond and has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending an internal investigation. Police say he joined the department in January of 2008 and is currently assigned to the department’s North Precinct.
He’s been charged with driving under the influence and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
