NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News police officer has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested for driving under the influence with a child in the vehicle.

Detective Justin Briggs, 36, was arrested just before midnight on Sunday in the 13000 block of Ridgeview Drive, according to a press release from Newport News Police. Officers say Briggs was off duty at the time. The child was a family member, according to police.

He’s been charged with driving under the influence and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
