Police: Man killed in domestic incident in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man was shot to death overnight in an incident Newport News police say was “domestic related.”

Police said the man was found on Warwick Boulevard just after 1 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the man as 52-year-old Darryl Collins.

Two young children visiting their grandmother were inside the apartment when the shooting happened, but police said they were not hurt. Monday’s incident marked the city’s 11th homicide this year — which is more than 2017.

Police said the two people involved in Monday’s incident knew each other. No suspects were being sought.
