Police: Man in motorized wheelchair hit by vehicle in Norfolk

News

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man in a motorized wheelchair was injured after trying to cross a busy street in Norfolk.

Daniel Hudson, a spokesperson for the Norfolk Police Department, said the incident happened in the 800 block of Military Highway, across from Military Circle Mall.

As the man was crossing the intersection, the light turned green for Military Highway. Drivers in one lane stopped to let the man across, Hudson said.

A vehicle in the next lane could not see the man and hit him, Hudson said.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Hudson said the driver stayed on scene and was not charged.
