NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — At least one suspect was reportedly detained Tuesday morning after police say an armed robbery in Newport News led to a man being assaulted.

Newport News police were called to the scene in the 300 block of Witness Lane, where officers made spokes with a 53-year-old man who said he was robbed.

The man said four suspects — at least two of whom were armed — went up to him and demanded that he empty his pockets — and then took his personal property.

Police said the man was assaulted with a firearm, which caused a small laceration.

He was treated at the scene by medics for minor injuries. One suspect was reportedly detained after officers searched the area.

Three other suspects are still wanted, police said.
