Police identify motorcyclist that died in Friday’s crash

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police in Norfolk are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist Friday night. 

Police say the crash happened in the 2400 block of Ingleside Road in the Ballentine Place at 5:48 p.m. 

The preliminary investigation revealed that 28-year-old Edward R. Witherspoon III, of Newport News, was traveling in the 2300 block of Ingleside Road when he lost control of his motorcycle. Witherspoon was ejected from his bike.

When police arrived, they found him lying in the roadway unresponsive. Witherspoon was pronounced dead on scene.

There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries reported.
