Police: Ice cream truck driver robbed at gunpoint

News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — An ice cream truck driver was robbed at gunpoint Sunday evening in Newport News, according to police.

Newport News police say officers were called to the robbery around 5 p.m. at Old Courthouse Way. The driver, a 30-year-old Portsmouth man, told police he was approached by a group of five or six juveniles.

One of them asked for ice cream, while the others hung back. After handing over the ice cream, the juvenile pulled out a gun and demanded money.

Police say the juveniles fled the area with cash.

Joseph is a neighbor who lives next to where police say the incident happened. “I’ve seen his truck and I think what people are doing is that when he comes back they sabotage him,” said Joseph. “It’s going to come back to the people that did it. You reap what you sow.”

No one was injured, and an investigation into the robbery is ongoing.
