NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A person who was injured in a shooting late Sunday night was driven to a Newport News hospital by their friend, police say.

Newport News police said officers were dispatched to a local hospital just after 11:50 p.m. There, the officers spoke with a 31-year-old Newport News man who had been shot.

The man reportedly told officers he was on Nettles Drive near Peninsula Memorial Park when someone inside a gold-colored sedan fired shots at him. He was unable to further describe the sedan or anyone inside, according to police.
