Chesapeake 7-Eleven Crash

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A driver suffered a medical emergency Tuesday morning in Chesapeake, which police say caused him to crash into a gas pump.

Dispatch says police were called to a crash around around 8:05 a.m. at a 7-Eleven at the corner of Military Highway and Canal Drive — not far from the Gilmerton Bridge.

Police spokesman Leo Kosinski said the driver’s medical emergency caused him to drive off the road.

Steve Bradley of the Chesapeake Fire Department said a small fire was ignited at the gas pump after the crash. Firefighters were called to the scene just after 8 a.m., but a customer had already extinguished the flames before units arrived.

One person was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Bradley said the 7-Eleven stayed open after the crash, but has been unable to provide fuel service.
