Police: Driver runs red light, hits school bus in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A school bus taking students to an elementary school in Norfolk was involved in a crash Tuesday morning, police say.

Norfolk police said the crash happened in 7800 block Hampton Boulevard, just off Terminal Boulevard. Officers responded to the scene shortly before 9 a.m.

Police said a 30-year-old woman driving a Ford Eclipse south on Hampton, when she ran a red light and hit the bus — which was turning onto to the boulevard.

No students were injured, but police said the woman was taken to a local hospital following the crash. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police said charges are pending against the driver.

A spokesperson with Norfolk Public Schools said the bus was transporting students from Sewells Point Elementary School.
