Police: Chicken guts spilled on U.S. 58 in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Chicken guts were spilled on U.S. 58 in Suffolk Thursday morning, police say.

Suffolk police said a crash was reported just before 9:30 a.m. at U.S. 58 and Pruden Boulevard.

A preliminary investigation found an open-top tractor trailer carrying chicken parts lost some of its load after the driver had to brake abruptly to avoid a crash between two vehicles.

In the crash, one vehicle caused another to run off the road, according to police. A woman in the second car suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Police said the driver of the tractor-trailer did not remain on scene.

The incident was treated as a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) situation, with periodic road closures — and alternating traffic — required to clean up the mess. U.S. 58 has since reopened.
