Police: Car T-boned by Suffolk school bus after running red light

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus Monday afternoon in Suffolk. 

The crash involving a Suffolk school bus and a Honda sedan happened in the 1100 block of Portsmouth Blvd. around 5:20 p.m, police say. 

A preliminary investigation by police revealed the driver of the Honda ran a red light before the car was T-boned by the bus. 

The woman driving the Honda was taken to the hospital with injuries considered non life-threatening. She was the only person in the car. 

The bus was carrying four students from John F. Kennedy Middle School, police say. All four students and the bus driver were not injured. Some parents came to the scene to pick up their students, and another bus responded to continue the route. 

The portion of the road is expected to be closed for about an hour as police investigate and a detour has been set up.
