Police: Bicyclist injured after crossing in front of vehicle in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was taken to the hospital on Monday afternoon after police say she crossed in front of a vehicle that had the right of way. 

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Mercury Blvd. and North Armistead Avenue, according to Corporal Ashley Jenrette with HPD. 

An investigation revealed the vehicle was stopped at a red light just before the accident occurred. When the light turned green, the car accelerated, striking a 48-year-old woman on a bicycle that rode in front of the vehicle.

Police say the bicyclist has non life-threatening injuries and the driver will not be charged.
