NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Three people had to be extricated after their vehicle hit a pole at high speed on Friday night in Newport News, according to police.

Police say the crash happened in the 5000 block of northbound Jefferson Ave. around 9:15 p.m.

The driver and the person in the front seat, a 28-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, had serious injuries. Police emphasized that a 22-year-old man in the backseat has life-threatening injuries.
