Tractor-trailer Route 58 Chesapeake crash

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — One person died Monday night after a tractor-trailer slammed into the side of a minivan in Chesapeake.

Chesapeake police said officers responded to a crash on U.S. 58/W. Military Highway — near the Hampton Roads Executive Airport — around 6:45 p.m.

U.S. 58 eastbound was closed at Bisco Street near the Kangaroo gas station while authorities investigated the cause of the crash, according to David Weir with the City of Chesapeake.

Police said a  minivan had pulled out from the parking lot of a Circle K. A tractor-trailer was unable to stop in time and hit the driver’s side of the minivan.

The tractor-trailer ended up tipping on its side.

Police said the driver of the minivan, 62-year-old Ronald Kirkland, of Virginia Beach, died from injuries he suffered in the crash. The driver of tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries.
