Pickup truck catches fire, crashes off Route 58 in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A truck crashed off U.S. 58 in Suffolk Monday morning, causing delays on the westbound side.

Suffolk police said a preliminary investigation found a Nissan Frontier pickup truck somehow caught fire and crashed into the a treeline, just past the Chesapeake city line.

The man driving the truck was able to escape.

First responders were called to the scene around 5:45 a.m. The truck was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

Police said the man was treated on scene before he was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Two lanes of traffic were closed immediately following crash. All lanes were reoponed just after 7:30 a.m.
