Person transported after house fire in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — One person was hospitalized for minor injuries following a house fire Monday evening. 

Officials say around 10:17 p.m., firefighters from Chesapeake and Virginia Beach were dispatched to the 1400 block of Laurel Avenue for a residential structure fire.

When on scene, crews found smoke coming from the second floor of the two-story home and later found the fire in an upstairs bedroom. The fire was marked under control at 10:46 p.m. 

There were no other injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
