COURTLAND, Va. (WAVY) — A person was killed in an accident involving two vehicles on Southampton Parkway Monday afternoon in Courtland.

The crash happened around 1:36 p.m. in front of the 7-Eleven in the 2800 block of Southampton Parkway, according to Detective Camden S. Cobb with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Cobb says the driver of a Ford Focus pulled out of the 7-Eleven parking lot and stopped in one of the eastbound lanes. The Focus was then struck by a Dodge pickup truck.

The driver of the Focus was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger in the Focus was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to Cobb.

The driver and two passengers in the Dodge were not injured.

Cobb says no one will be charged or cited in the accident, but the cause is still under investigation. He says the rainy weather likely wasn’t a factor in the wreck.

All eastbound lanes in the area have reopened.
