PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Two pastors from local branches of The Mount church took a new spin on bible study with an event at a bar in Olde Town Portsmouth on Thursday night.
“Lit After 6” at Roger Brown’s Restaurant and Sports Bar is an event filled with food, fun and fellowship and was designed to reach younger audiences.
“We all know that on Sunday mornings you’re gonna get your older crowd, you’re gonna get my generation,” said Senior Site Pastor of The Mount Virginia Beach Terron Rodgers. “But we’re trying to reach that millennial crowd, in a spot like this at Roger Brown’s, where they can come in and not feel intimidated by the atmosphere of church.”
Rodgers says they want to bring the word of God to people in a different space. “”Our motto at The Mount is that we believe the church is supposed to change lives, so no matter where we are…it doesn’t have to happen in the building at Las Gaviotas Boulevard.”
Senior Site Pastor of The Mount Western Branch Deanneen Goodrich said, “We are literally going outside the walls of the church and we’re going to the people. And we are believing that there is gonna be a great harvest, because we are no longer going to stay in that limit god with the restriction of a building.”
The event will be held at Roger Brown’s every Thursday at 6 p.m. Mickala Lewis with A Taste of Thought, LLC helps to organize it.
