NEWPORT NEWS (WAVY) – Roxanne Lord is proof, age is only a number. Lord, 61, is now a gold medalist and world-record holder as a powerlifter.
As a member of Team USA’s Powerlifting Raw Master National team, Lord succesfully squated 115 kilos at the World Championships in Calgary, Canada this month. It was her first international competition.
“Very pleased and very amazed I was able to do that well, after only 16 months (competing),” said Lord, who’s originally from upstate New York. “A lot of people have been competing 20 and 30 years, and don’t make it to international competition.”
And she’s far from finished. Lord intends to break her own record at the world championships in Sweden next year.
