JAMESTOWN, Va. (WAVY) — A new transmission line across the James River has been powered up.
Dominion Energy said in a news release the Skiffes Creek Transmission Project was “energized” on Tuesday. Construction on the 500-kilovolt line began in November 2017.
Dominion said the line will provide clean air by allowing Yorktown’s coal-fired units 1 and 2 to be retired. Those coal units are expected to be closed in March.
Bonita Harris, a spokesperson for Dominion, said the Skiffes Creek line will supply power to NASA Langley as well as Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
